Small Goals Big Results

Today I went to “Therapy Camp” with Haley today. Therapy camp is intense therapy for 3 hours every day for 2 weeks. Haley has attended art camp, acting camp, Jcc Day Camp and “Therapy camp” every summer for the past 3 years. Each camp is approximately 2 weeks and she just sees the therapy as another camp. The therapy is very intense, she stretches, climbs stairs, walks on the treadmill, does some weighted exercises, jumps, uses a suit with bungee cords, etc. It’s incredible how much she does in a 3 hour time frame and she always comes out of the therapy so far ahead where she went in. It’s like a supper boost she gets every summer.

So today she was told to jump down the hall all the way to the tape. Her first few jumps really didn’t make any forward progress. Haley was intent and focused on the wall her Goal but it was just to far to jump and she forgot about some of the basics when focusing so far out. Finally the Therapist remembered that Haley does better when she picks a closer spot she can jump to. So the Therapist, Noreen Scott, reminded Haley to pick the next spot on the floor and jump to that spot. It worked. Haley jumped forward to the spot and made a lot of progress.

It’s funny how this is a reflection of most of us and how we set goals that can keep us from going forward. It isn’t until we take the first Jump forward, that leap of faith that we get going and make progress. Here is to taking the small jump in the right direction to reaching your goals.

Oh yeah one more thing – What starts as small jumps forward become bigger and bigger jumps until you get to take the huge leap stumble a bit and hit that big goal anyway.
