Hugs – Person beyon the disability

It’s been a while since I’ve written about the family. We’ve been having a great summer. Haley has been to a drama camp, art camp, and is now in what she calls Therapy camp. The therapy is in Conyers ga. which is about an hour away and she is doing great. My other daughter is in day camp 3 days a week. Today I brought my younger daughter to camp. We happened to get there at the same time as another little boy who’s name is Sam. Sam uses a walker to get around. From what I know he does not have any technical diagnosis but he does have some delays. When my daughter saw him she ran across the parking lot (Safely) to give him a huge hug. Seeing Abby react to Sam this way was such a thrill to both me and to his mom. Sam’s mom shared with me how wonderful it made her feel to see him embraced by the other children in his class. I loved seeing that my daughter had no inhibitions when interacting with a child that did have a disability. She didn’t see it at all. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all had the ability of a child to see the person beyond the disability?
