Exercise, Mile 2 and my First Born Son

Posted under Goal Setting, Parenting, Personal Development by metzgerbusiness on Wednesday 30 September 2009 at 10:20 pm

Tonight I ran for 1 straight mile for the second time since eleventh grade. My goal is to have run five miles total in 1 mile intervals before we leave for the hospital next week to receive our first born son.

Tonight I realized 2 lessons while running my mile.

1) I ran slowly tonight, much slower than the first mile I ran last Friday. When I hit my finish line I could have continued running but I stopped intentionally. I don’t want my muscles to get to sore and I need to complete my five miles before my son gets here next week. I’ve made a ton of commitments to myself that I have often broke but I refuse to break this commitment. I would rather die than break this commitment. You see I think Exercise has taught me something. It’s taught me that I can easily make bigger and better goal but I need to reach my first goal before making new ones. Don’t go faster Don’t go longer just go, and go and go and go. If you keep going you’ll do it. I only have 3 miles left to run before next Wednesday night when we leave for the hospital.

2) First born son’s have traditionally been a mainstay in history and religion. Tonight 1 week and 3 miles before my son arrives I know why. It wasn’t that men needed a son to give everything to it was that men needed a son to learn how to be a man. You see with daughters you have to be a good man but they will also forgive you for all your faults. Daughters are less likely to make your faults their own. Daughters are all about love and spiritual growth. Son’s are about making sure to keep your word because that is what a man should do. Keep your word to yourself and keep your word to the world. Son’s are about making sure that you not only set but meet your goals of improvement so they know to do the same. Son’s are about staying physically fit because they’ll expect you to keep up with them. Son’s are about ensuring your relationship with G-d is strong because you won’t always know the answer or do the right thing and you will need strength and forgiveness. Son’s and Daughter’s are about becoming all that you should be so that they KNOW they can become all that they can be.

Lord thank you for my wife and children and please give me the strength to be all that they need and become all I should be. In Your Holy Name, Amen.

  • Wow Kevin, what a touching post. I love what you say about sons help a Dad learn to be a man. What a wonderful time in your life, your wife's (albeit a bit painful I'm sure right about now), and in the lives of your beautiful girls.

May G-D richly bless this time in your life as we keep you all in prayer.
