Sharon,

Thanks so much for this information. I had no idea that it was possible to mis-diagnosed as Tourette’s Syndrome. This is something to keep in mind and for parents to who do get this diagnosis to be aware of. Do you have any idea of how often this mis-diagnoses happens?

Hi Kevin,

I follow you on Twitter (ChillinTime60). First let me say that I hope you're feeling better today. And I hope it's not the flu!

Also, on ADD. When my now 24 year old son was 8 years old, he was diagnosed with ADD. At the time, I didn't know what the procedures/tests were that came to this diagnosis. I just trusted the neurologist who had diagnosed him. He didn't respond to any of the meds, and 3 years later, he was seen by a neurologist at Boston Children's Hospital. This doctor said he did not have ADD, but rather a mild form of Tourette's Syndrome. I asked him how such a diagnosis of ADD could be made when it was Tourette's. I was told in someone as young as he was at the time of the ADD diagnosis, it can be difficult to distinguish between the two as Tourette's can mimic ADD in a child under 10 years of age. I'm only mentioning this because of your site here, and dealings with your own ADD. I just thought it might be important to mention this in some way to parents with boys (the neurologist in Boston said this primarily is the case with males) so they can be well informed on the subject. If you'd like to find out more from me, you can send me an email, and I will be happy to answer any questions as best as I can! -Sharon
